Planet Fitness Launches Free High School Summer Pass™ Program

planet-fitness-teens

Planet Fitness, one of the largest and fastest-growing operators of fitness centers, is excited to announce the return of its High School Summer Pass™ program. This initiative invites high school teens aged 14-19 to work out for free at any of its 2,500+ locations across the U.S. and Canada this summer, from June 1 to August 31.

How to Register

Starting today, teens can visitPlanetFitness.com/SummerPass to register for the program. Club access begins on Saturday, June 1. Teens under 18 in the U.S. and under 19 in Canada must register with a parent or guardian, either online or in-club.

Promoting Youth Health and Wellness

Since its inception, the High School Summer Pass program has seen Planet Fitness invest over $200 million in waived membership dues, promoting the health and wellness of millions of teens. This year's program kicks off during Mental Health Awareness Month, emphasizing the importance of physical activity for mental health, particularly when school is out, and academic or extracurricular activities are on pause.

Importance of Exercise

The American Heart Association reports that only 25 percent of teens achieve the recommended one hour of physical activity per day, often due to increased screen time. Research indicates that physical activity significantly improves mental health, with nine out of ten teens agreeing that exercise boosts their overall well-being. A recent study by JAMA Pediatrics also found that physical fitness can protect children and adolescents against depression, anxiety, and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder.

"As the leader in fitness with locations throughout the U.S. and Canada, Planet Fitness is proud to continue to invest in today's youth by providing free access to fitness during a critical time in their lives," said Craig Benson, Interim Chief Executive Officer at Planet Fitness. "Many teens continue to be impacted by the long-term mental health effects of the pandemic, yet studies show that exercise can have a significant, positive impact on teens' overall wellness. We look forward to welcoming High School Summer Pass participants into our clubs to support them in their health and wellness journeys."

Supporting Teens' Mental Health

To better understand and support teens, Planet Fitness commissioned a national study, revealing that:

  • Mental Health Concerns: 94% of teens face emotional and mental health challenges, with 79% of parents expressing concerns about their teen's mental health. Exercise helps 63% of teens feel better about themselves, boosts mood in 53%, and increases feelings of accomplishment.
  • Body Positivity: 72% of teens are self-conscious, with 43% struggling with body positivity.
  • Timeliness: 85% of teens believe now is the best time to focus on improving their health.
  • Screen Time: 70% of teens report that limiting social media and phone usage helps them cope with challenges.
  • Social Support: 90% of teens find exercising with a friend beneficial, and many are motivated by working out with family, trainers, sports teams, or fitness influencers.

Additional Benefits

Participants in the High School Summer Pass program will have access to free fitness training from in-club certified trainers, workouts designed specifically for high schoolers in the free Planet Fitness App, and workout plans available on the Summer Pass website.
